Russia-based petrochemical company OAO Nizhnekamskneftekhim selected LyondellBasell's Spheripol process technology for use in its new single-line polypropylene (PP) plant.
Built in Nizhnekamsk, Russia, the 400ktpy PP plant is expected to come onstream after 2015.
The technology, which LyondellBasell claims to provide an unmatched safety record and operability, is used for the production of PP and offers a wide range of polymers applications.
LyondellBasell Europe, Asia, International (EAI) and Technology olefins and polyolefins senior vice president Bob Patel said: "This is the third polyolefin process technology that we have licensed to them building on a relationship that spans more than eight years."
LyondellBasell's portfolio of licensed polyolefin technologies also includes Spherizone used for the production of PP and polyolefins, Metocene PP for specialty PP products, Lupotech for low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymers.
Other technologies include flexible, gas-phase process Spherilene technology for LLDPE, medium-density polyethylene and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) as well as a low-pressure slurry process Hostalen technology for high-performance multimodal HDPE.
