Mercedes-Benz inaugurated its new truck and bus plant in Zárate, Argentina, 74 years after opening its first factory in the country. The ceremony was led by Raúl Barcesat, CEO of Daimler Truck’s Argentine subsidiary, together with global executives from Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Daimler Buses, and Mercedes-Benz for Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.
The new facilities represented an investment of USD 110 million and are located on a 20-hectare site along Route 9. According to published information, it is the first automotive factory inaugurated in Argentina in 15 years and replaces the former Virrey del Pino plant.
The plant will begin operations with the production of Atego and Accelo trucks, as well as OH and OF model bus chassis. The complex will have a production capacity of 10,000 vehicles per year operating in three shifts, although it will initially start with a single shift.
The site also houses the country’s first and only REMAN plant, focused on the reindustrialization of truck and bus components with support equivalent to that of a new part, lower cost, and reduced environmental impact. The portfolio includes gearboxes, engines, and cylinder heads, with more than 9,600 parts delivered to date.
The complex is complemented by an Auto Parts and Spare Parts Logistics Center, inaugurated in December 2024, focused on national distribution with deliveries within 24 to 48 hours. With the opening of the plant, Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Buses projects 500 direct jobs and around 2,000 indirect positions, while strengthening its export profile and consolidating Zárate as a long-term industrial hub.
